Accommodation

Throughout Egypt, there is a wide variety of hotels, with most of the luxurious hotels located in the main cities.

Some have historical significance, for example, (Marriot) Mena House in Cairo which was once the royal lodge of the Khedive Ismail, and during the war, was used by Australian troops. The (Sofitel) Winter Palace in Luxor was the residence of Lord Carnarvon when staying in Luxor and the announcement of the discovery of Tutankhamun's tomb was made from the balcony within.  Overlooking the Nile and Elephantine Island in Aswan is the (Sofitel Legend) Old Cataract Hotel, where Agatha Christie penned Death on the Nile.  All have been renovated over the years to bring them up to modern standards, while still retaining their original charm and like the newer hotels have bars, restaurants, pools, and shops.

At Egyptian Experiences, we will work with you to find the right hotel to suit your tastes and budget. Whether you want views of the pyramids, the Nile, Mediterranean Sea or prefer to be in the middle of the city, we will find the ideal place for you.

Whether you like to stay in 5-star luxury accommodation with restaurants, shops, and a pool, or just want a place to sleep and shower, we can find you the right place to stay. We have some hotels which we can recommend, (some are shown below) or if you have a particular place you want to stay, just let us know and we can look after all the bookings. Below are some of our recommended hotels in the main cities, likewise we can also recommend good hotels in other areas.

Cairo

If you want views of the pyramids, then may we suggest Le Meridian Pyramids, (below left) the famous Mena House, (middle) or the Hayat Pyramids View hotel in Giza (Right). (Note: not all rooms have pyramid views). For those who want to be closer to the main part of Cairo, there is the City Stars Intercontinental Cairo or Sofitel Hotel Cairo overlooking the Nile. Another popular hotel is the recently re-opened Le Riad Hotel de Charme.   If you have another preference please let us know.

Luxor

If you want to be close to the Nile, then the Steigenberger Luxor where you can relax by the pool and watch magnificent sunsets, then this is a beautiful place to stay; with its variety of restaurants and shops for gift-hunting, this is a popular place. For those who like their history, there is the Winter Palace where Lord Carnarvon used to stay when in Egypt, or on the other side of the lovely Winter Palace gardens is the Pavilion, another option to the main palace. In between these two are colourful gardens, pool and outdoor bar.

Aswan

Aswan has a more relaxed, laid back feeling and if you like peace and quiet then Pyramisa Isis Island is your place, with access by a short motorboat ride from the east bank. Room options include in the large main building or rooms in the outdoor sections. There are many views of the Nile to be had from the various parts of the hotel and therefore a good spot for those who love sunsets over the water.

On Elephantine Island, there is the Movenpick Resort with its quiet tropical gardens and terraces. Within walking distance of historical sites, you can choose from a room, suite or villa.

For fans of Dame Agatha Christie (who's 2nd marriage was to an archaeologist), there is the Sofitel Legend Old Cataract where she wrote Death on the Nile. The hotel was once a 19th century Victorian Palace and still retains its old charm even though recently renovated. A short walk from here is the Nubian Museum which is worth visiting and a bit

further on is the Unfinished Obelisk of Queen Hatshepsut.

Alexandria

Alexandria is a mix of modern and ancient Roman influence. The city may have been marked out by Alexander the Great using seeds, but today Alexandria is a thriving, busy city. Sitting on the Mediterranean coast, it is cooler than other parts of Egypt. There are lots of hotels to choose from with views over the sea. If old world charm is your style then both Le Metropole and Steinberger Cecil provide you with high ceilings and elegance of a bygone era. The latter also provides a roof top meals area with wonderful views of Alexandria and the Mediterranean. Close to sites such as the Alexandria Museum, Bibliotheca Alexandria and the Roman amphitheatre, stretch your legs and go exploring. If you are after something a little more modern, then the Tolip Hotel which boasts its own private beach area as well as an outdoor pool might be more to your liking.
